My interesting ride

I just have to share a little story from my day. At about 1:00 pm today I'm heading down Yucaipa Blvd., on my way to get gas before heading to Costco.... and my car stops going. I realize that I've run out of gas! Oh my, this has never happened to me before. I am about 1/2 mile or so from a gas station on Yucaipa Blvd. so I start praying "please Lord, let me coast to the gas station". Well of course I hit a red light and have to stop. I call Matt because I'm freaking out b/c I can't find my hazard light button on my car (I've only had it a couple of months), so he tells me where it is, and the light turns green. I pray and push the gas, and the car goes just enough to start coasting again (very slowly, but coasting none the less)..... and of course, I hit another stupid red light. I'm tempted to just run it, but cars are going through the intersection, so I can't. Thank the Lord.... I am able to start coasting again. I coast a little lon…

It's a boy!

After much anticipation and wondering, we found out this morning that we are having a boy :) The ultrasound tech did a shot where it looked like he was sitting on a glass table, so we could tell quite clearly that the baby is a HE :) It was very exciting, as this was our first ultrasound, so it was also the first time that we got to see the baby. He was very active, moving all around, flexing his hands and sucking on his fingers. Now I can picture him moving around down there in my tummy when I feel all of those kicks. We are going to name him Ethan Matthew. We are thrilled! The pictures are hard to make out, but fun none the less :) The first one is a picture of his head, and he has his foot right next to it (you can see the bottom of his foot)...he's a limber little guy! The second one is a picture of his hands, the third one is a picture of his whole body, it is as if he is laying on his right side/tummy and looking at you, and the last one is a picture of his legs and anatomy…

Where did my brain go?

Along with an expanding waistline, I seem to have a shrinking brain. I finally understand why women say they feel like their brains leave them while being pregnant. I have found myself making silly mistakes and just plain forgetting things as of late. One great example: I paid a credit card bill to a wrong account; in fact it's an account that is closed, but was still on my Bill Pay online. I didn't even realize my mistake until we got a statement in the mail saying we had a credit on a credit card that is closed. Unfortunately this also meant I had not paid the credit card bill to the proper company, and it was two weeks late! Ugh! I have been extra forgetful as well. Poor Matt....I don't know how often this scenario happens lately:
Matt: "Remember, I told you about that:
Jess: "No you didn't, I don't remember anything about that"
Matt: smiles patiently and replies "Yes sweetie, I did".
Thank goodness for an understanding and patient…

We went to a wedding on Saturday in Lake Arrowhead so I thought I'd post some pictures from it :) We got to see some friends we haven't seen in a while, along with Danny and Jolene (and baby Christian), it was a nice evening.

Surprise shower

My kids (and room moms) threw me a surprise baby shower today. It was so sweet. One of the mom's prayed for me, then another mom gave me a poem she had written and I had to read it out loud. They made me cry! They included my aide too because she is going to be a grandma for the first time in a few more weeks. The kids all brought baby books, so now I have a ton of really cute baby books. It was really cute, they all wrote what they thought I was having, what I should name the baby, what they think it will look like, and why I will be a good mom. My favorite response was this: "Mrs. Hekman will be a good mom because she already knows how to take care of kids. Plus she kept her guinea pig alive". Isn't that hilarious! The funny thing is, I really only kept one guinea pig alive....and had 2 more die. I hope that's not a measure of my success! The whole thing was really precious.

It's a bittersweet week for me, knowing I won't be teaching anymore.…

I like blogs

I just thought I'd share that I really like blogs. I love reading the thoughts and experiences of my friends and loved ones (and sometimes even strangers). It's like a little intimate window into their lives. I never really did the blog thing until recently, but it's great! Keep on blogging! ;)

17 Weeks

I had another doctor appointment today. It wasn't anything eventful, but I did get to hear the heartbeat again :) I even got to hear the baby kick (which sounded like a "swhoosh"). Three weeks from today we have our ultrasound appointment. Hopefully the baby will cooperate and spread eagle so we can find out the sex! haha. We are just excited to finally get to see this baby.

I was sitting in church yesterday and I thought I felt the baby kicking, but it's so hard to tell at first, so I don't know. The past few days I have felt really good, which is a huge relief as I was still having nausea. Matt and I have been working hard on the house, trying to get our projects finished up. Right now we are finishing the yard, and making good progress. We only have a few more things to do. Then it's on to making the mudroom into an office. Matt has to have surgery on his ankle in August, and it will take about 2 months for him to recover, so he really feels the…
