I don’t actually watch Oprah all that often, but today I did and I was inspired. It was about “freeganism”, which is when people basically live off of things they find, usually in dumpsters. These people make good incomes, but basically dumpster dive and find food and other awesome stuff. It was actually pretty amazing how much great food they found in the trash outside of grocery stores. They do it more for a statement and because they feel like so much good stuff is thrown away, that they can help by using it instead of buying more stuff. They brought about a good point, and one that I’ve pondered often, about consumerism, and how much do we really need. We often work so that we can buy more. Do we really need more? Usually we do not, and we think that by having more it will make us happy, but really it doesn’t.

I love my frizzy permed hair, it's great... and that awesome jacket that I'm wearing is too cute. I think I'm holding Canadian money or something.
First of all I don't like the color of my fridge, and I like to put way too much stuff on it. I always have my grocery lists (one for the regular grocery store, one for Trader Joe's, one for Costco and one for Target). I also have tons of pictures...the ones in the ribbon holder thing are all from this year's Christmas cards. There are a few magnets that we got on various vacations (I like to look at them and reminisce and dream of future vacations). I usually have an announcement or invitation hanging on the door. On the top is my digital timer, which I use all the time. There's also a nifty conversion chart that I use once in a while cooking. Clipped on the bottom I have a bunch of recipes I want to try (along with a whole three ring binder full of more recipes I want to try). So there you have it, that's what's on my fridge.
Now I tag Krista, Christy, and Lisa.

I also had a wonderful time on Saturday sewing with my mom. My brother was even around, so the three of us and Ethan got to hang out. I sewed up a storm, and Ethan was kind enough to take a three hour nap for me as well. It was great just to hang out with my family.
On Sunday we went and saw Danny preach at his church. Afterwards Jolene was kind enough to make us a yummy lunch and we hung out for a while. As an added bonus I got to see Jolene's mom Joy who is out visiting for three weeks. It was a great afternoon :)
Here are some pictures:
Matt and his brother Mike at the races. They are on top of the boxes in this picture, in the in-field above pit row.
Ethan sleeping in his sling on Sunday evening. I usually only resort to using the sling at home when Ethan is cranky (which is usually the hour before bed time), and it works quite well. He usually ends up dozing in it. I use it a lot at church or when we're out.
"Girls clothes get more space in the store, and it's universally acknowledged that baby and toddler girls are more fun to dress. This is deeply unfair to mothers of boys. But they'll get their revenge in three years, when moms of girls have to deal with hoochie-mama clothing for preschoolers."

This morning Matt stayed home with Ethan and I went to the gym... it felt really good to work out at the gym. I can actually start taking Ethan now, and it's only $10 a month to add him onto my membership so that he can go in the nursery. I was just waiting until he was 4 months old so that if he gets sick it won't be quite as bad.
After I came home and showered and stuff Matt took me out for sushi. It was very yummy and nice to get out together. Ethan was a stinker and didn't nap like he should have been, but thankfully he quietly sucked on his paci, so Matt and I could at least enjoy one another.
Here are some random pictures:
Look how lovely this picutre is... ain't I a beauty? haha. Matt is mad-dogging me for taking his picture (we were in the drive thru at McDonalds getting soft serve).
Hope you all have a great weekend!

I'm still batteling naps with Ethan. Most days he only sleeps 30-45 minutes per nap (3 or 4 times a day), however there have been a few days thrown in where he as taken a 2 1/2-3 hour nap. I've tried leaving him in his crib and hoping he goes back to sleep... but it never happens, he just cries. Once he's awake, he's awake and ready to get up. Thankfully he's still usually pretty happy... until about 6:00 at night, then he's pretty much done for the day. On the days that he has had good naps, he's definitely more happy and pleasant. Usually he's pretty content in his exersaucer, so he's been spending some time in it when I need to get stuff done... since I can hardly get anything done when he naps. It's amazing how 30 minutes flies by! I'm still very grateful that he sleeps well at night. While I have been a bit frustrated with his naps, at least I'm well rested :) I just keep hoping this is a phase and will end.
Matt is super excited about Saturday because he'll be at the races in a box seat on pit row with his brother (a Christmas gift from his parents). Ethan and I will be spending the day at my moms. I'm going to bring my sewing machine and we're going to sew. It will be nice to spend the day with her. Tomorrow is Matt's Friday off which is always nice :) He's going to take me out for a sushi lunch.... yum.

In addition to my drawers I cleaned out the cabinets in the bathroom. I try to do this every couple of months, because it's amazing how many almost empty containers and other stuff you can amass in your bathroom drawers.
A couple of weeks ago I cleaned out my books. If you are an avid reader like me and wind up with a lot of books, one great thing to do with them is sell them to the paperback exchange or used book store. There are online websites where you can do this and there are a couple of stores in Yucaipa as well. They will buy your books for a quarter of whatever price is on the book. Then, all of the books in their store they sell for half of the cover price. Of course as my husband likes to remind me, you can always go to the library and check them out for FREE! I've never tried this, but I really should... especially since our library is literally two blocks from my house.

Ahhh those sweet blue eyes and rosy cheeks :) We're thinking that Ethan might just end up with blue eyes. I know they could still change (I've read it can take up to 9 months), so I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Last week we set up Ethan's exersacuer. He loves to stretch his legs out and be straight, so I was pretty sure he'd like it. He gets excited about the toys and loves that he can be upright and see what's going on.
Yesterday I was loading Ethan's stroller into my trunk. I set it on the ground, and then went to close my trunk while still bending over. Well, my head was still under it a little, and I ended up slamming the trunk on my head full force. I had to sit in my car and cry for a little bit before I could drive again. I seriously saw stars. When I got home I noticed there was a bit of blood matted to my hair and I had a killer headache. I think I got a mild concussion because I felt a little out of it and a bit nauseous as well. I got a good night's sleep, but my head still hurts today so I'm taking easy... I didn't go walking this morning and I'm staying home all day. What a klutz I am! Arghh!
