Grammy's Here!

My kids adore their grandparents.
We are so very fortunate to live close to both of them.
My kids are thrilled when they see their grandparents.
Whenever my mom comes over they will drop everything and run full force to her.
It's quite adorable.
The other day I happened to have my camera in hand when she came over, so I was able to snap a picture of Alayna running to her.
It melts her heart every time!

I have pictures to share, but I'm sitting out back with my Netbook while my kids play in the water table, so you're going to have to settle for a bunch of my random thoughts....

*Back in January Matt went through all of our finances and made charts and graphs and we had a "financial meeting" complete with a Powerpoint.  I love that he did this because let me tell you people, that area is NOT my strength.  Us creative types tend to live more in the moment and lack the patience and motivation to do something like that.  Matt made us a budget and we've happily been trying our best to stick to to it.  It feels so good to have that area on track, and I honestly like the budget.  We hadn't made a budget and actually stuck to it since we were first married.  The best part is that Matt takes care of it and keeps track of it all and lets me know where we're at.  He even does my bookkeeping and keeps track of all my business stuff :)  I'm sure happy to have someone to balance me out in an area that I am not good at!

*Yay for sunshine!  I feel like April has been so gloomy and COLD.  I'm happy to have the sun back :)

*If you ever decide that you'd like to have a butt load of flies swarming around your house at all times, move a few blocks away from a chicken ranch.  The amount of flies around here right now is out of control!

*Ethan has been HARD lately. Granted, he's normally not an easy child, but lately he's been extra challenging.   I don't feel like getting into it, but let's just say.... ugh.  Motherhood is the HARDEST thing I've done to date, that's for sure.

*My allergies have been INSANE lately.  They have never been this bad before.  I'm thinking I must be very allergic to something that's blooming right now.  I've had to take Alavert every single day for weeks.  I'm ready to not be sniffly anymore!

*Alayna has started responding to questions with "I dunno", it's pretty cute.  Another cute thing is that anytime she sees Minnie or Micky Mouse she points and says "mouse" in a really cute voice.  Love it.  I'm really loving this age with her right now.  Her language is exploding these days.

*Today was filled with poop drama with Ethan.  Constipation for three days, mirilax, suppository, lots of fussing and crying, him refusing to go until he finally pooped his pants, then going a lot, then pooping his pants a little bit 3 more times, then putting poopy underwear into the dryer while he was supposed to be napping (and I was in the living room).... wow.  It's amazing what we must put up with as moms huh?

*My kids have been fighting a lot this week.  Alayna has started antagonizing Ethan.  It's really a lot of fun (hopefully you detect my sarcasm in that).

*Tomorrow is TMOMS.  I love TMOMS Fridays.  The sad thing is that we only have 2 more meetings and then we don't meet again until fall :(  I definitely miss it all summer long. I've really enjoyed my table this year.  Tomorrow will be extra fun because I have TMOMS in the morning and dinner at the Flores casa in the evening :)

*I made it to the gym four days this week and worked out HARD.  I think every muscle in my body hurts.  It's a pain that makes me happy.

That's probably enough randomness....
It's been quite the day.
I'm happy tomorrow is Friday...
that's what's getting me through the remainder of today :)

Egg hunt

The day before Easter Matt's parents had us, along with his brother Mike and kids, over for an egg hunt.  Marlene made us all a delicious breakfast and then we were onto the hunt in the freezing cold weather. We didn't get any sunshine Easter weekend, then two days later it was in the high 80s.

The kids were cute running around searching for eggs.

This was Alayna's first hunt and she caught on right away.  She was so cute.  She raced around with her bucket searching for eggs.

Alayna was quite excited once she realized there were jelly beans inside of the eggs.  She opened them all up and ate her loot.

Ethan is quite adept at finding eggs and had no problem finding his fair share of them.

We had a great Easter.
We went to church in the morning and then spent the afternoon at my mom's along with the Flores family, Matt's parents, my brother, Beth and Danielle.  It was relaxing and great.
We stuffed our bellies with hearts overflowing with thanksgiving, relaxed and visited.
I really didn't get my camera out much... just enough to get a few pictures of us all in our Easter best :)
The perfect kind of holiday :)
My family in our Easter wear... with everyone looking at the camera :)

These two boys are hilarious together... we get a kick out of watching them.  They looked like they were posing for a prom picture here on this rock.

Alayna at 19 months

Alayna at 19 months.
I want to freeze time...
this age is really quite precious with her.

Vocabulary explosion and lots of cute babbling.
Adores her brother and mimics everything he does.

Loves all of her "babies"...
dolls, stuffed animals, etc.
She hugs and kisses them and loves to pretend to feed them.

 Very loving.
Gives lots of sweet hugs and kisses...
especially to her Daddy.

She runs anywhere,
climbs anything,
and has a very adventurous spirit.

LOVES books.
Constantly paging through books and asking us to read them to her.

Always happy.
Makes us smile and laugh constantly.

 Loves her doggy.
Constatnly tries to play with Cookie...
wrestles, chases and annoys.

Loves "pretties"....
bracelets, necklaces, and anything girly.
She loves to wear them and take them on and off

Oh sweet baby girl...
you are growing bigger much too fast for me!!

Snickerdoodle bars

I came across this yummy recipe yesterday and decided to make it for the Easter egg hunt that I had toady for my mom's group from church.  It was super easy to make, and super delicious.  I might have eaten a bar before breakfast.... and another at lunch : /

Snickerdoodle Bars

2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon Kosher salt

2 cups packed brown sugar

1 cup butter, at room temperature
2 eggs, at room temperature

1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt and set aside. In large bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth. Stir in the flour mixture until well blended. Spread evenly in prepared pan. Combine white sugar and cinnamon in a little bowl. Evenly sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture over the top of the batter. Bake 25-30 minutes or until surface springs back when gently pressed. Cool slightly. While still warm, cut into bars with a sharp knife.

I got the recipe and picture from this blog.

Random tidbits and a recipe

*I've been a major slacker in posting pictures on my blog lately. I have lots that I've taken, I just haven't posted them.  I've had a busy month with my photography business (yay), which in turn means I'm sitting at the computer a lot working, and then I don't have time to blog.

Ethan loves to climb in the crib with Alayna

*Matt was out of town last week and so I guess my body figured that would be a great time to come down with a nasty cold.  Ethan also decided it would be a great week to not nap and be really really difficult.  I think you probably get the picture.... it was a long week :)  I've been super bummed that I have felt too rotten to go to the gym... I was making good progress!  Hopefully I'll feel good enough to go by the end of the week.
one of my attempts to join in on more photos.... I set my camera on a shelf and used the timer.... so not flattering, but oh well :)

*Here are a few recent pictures of bath time....

*This weekend I had photoshoots in Irvine, Los Angeles and Yucaipa.  I was all over the place.  The shoot in LA was at the LACMA.  Sadly that was the first time I've ever even been there, and I didn't even get to look at the art.  I think I need to go back to look around one day, it was a really cool place. I actually hadn't even been to LA since I was pregnant with Ethan.

*On Sunday at church all the little kids got to come into the "big church" and wave flags and palm branches at the beginning of the service while we sang a song.  This was Ethan's first time being up on stage and we had prepped him (because he gets VERY overwhelmed with things like that) several times.  He was a little confused and unsure of himself, but was going along with things.... until he accidentally got poked in the face with a flag.  Then he lost it... screamed big time.  I had to go up to the front of the church and get him. Ethan is one of the loudest criers/screamers I have ever heard, and this was no exception :)  When something happens to him like that, he also takes FOREVER to get over it.  He refused to go back to his Sunday school class after the kids were finished and ended up sitting with us in church.  Hopefully this won't make him forever fearful of performing :)

*This was like a month ago before Tuesday night dinner one week (that we were hosting)... we were playing with my timer....

*Yesterday afternoon I made frozen hot chocolate.  It was super yummy.  I found two recipes and tweaked them.  Here's what I did:

  • 3 oz. of chocolate chips
  • 1 T oil
  • 1 envelope store bought hot chocolate mix
  • 1  tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 cups ice
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)
Place the chocolate chips and the oil  into a microwave safe bowl. Heat for 1 minutes, stopping to stir half way through. Continue to heat until melted and smooth.  Add the cocoa and sugar, stirring constantly until thoroughly blended. Remove from heat and slowly add 1/2 cup of the milk and stir until smooth. Cool to room temperature.
In a blender place the remaining cup of milk, the room temperature chocolate mixture, and the ice. Blend on high speed until smooth and the consistency of a frozen daiquiri. Pour into a cup and top with homemade whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

I'm off to Target to buy supplies for an Easter Egg hunt I'm hosting this week for my mom's group from church.   Hopefully I'll be back sooner than later :)
Hope you all have a great week!!!
