The dirt monster strikes again...

My mother in law said it best,  she's a girly girl and a tom boy all wrapped up in a cute little package :-)  My little dirt magnet was wearing a very pretty dress not too long before she looked like this.

Life lately

I realize everything I've blogged lately has been an event or outing of some sort.  I haven't touched much on anything else because to be honest I've been in a bit of a funk since June.  I'm working on it... and working through it, and in the mean time just trying to make the best of things and blog about the fun we've had.

We've been staying pretty busy with random things.
In the evenings my kiddos LOVE to play in the yard, and I love to be out there as well.
I would love it even more if our grass was coming in a little more even, but I'll touch on that later :)  For now I'm just glad we can play outside, and we do have most of a lawn!
The kids love to push their dump trucks all around the yard, fill them up with weeds and rocks and whatever else tickles their fancy and then dump the debris somewhere else.

When you're tired of pushing your dump truck around it can also double as a seat :)
Notice how dirty Alayna's face is.
I'm not kidding when I say Ethan doesn't get as dirty in three days as she does in just one.
The girl is seriously a dirt magnet.

Such a boy....
a saw in one hand, scooping dirt into his dump truck with the other...
all while managing to stay much cleaner than his sister :)

Alayna and I had colds this week, so we didn't go to the gym.
On one hand it was nice to have a break,
on the other hand I missed working out.
Despite being incredibly snotty, the nastiness didn't keep Alayna from enjoying herself this week :)

I couldn't help it, I airburushed the snot and dirt off her face in this picture....
I think sometimes it would be nice to have at least a few pictures of her pretty face without dirt all over it!!

I might have airbrushed this one too....
her face looks so nice without dirt and snot :)
Okay, here's a more accurate one of her...
sitting in her dump truck,
with her dirty, snotty face...
and getting ready to put something nasty into her mouth....

That girl of mine!

My kids love popsicles when it's hot out :)

I love this picture of Ethan...
it's so rare that I get him to look at me while he's smiling.
It usually only happens if I can make him laugh.

*******************
Do you ever take your kids to do something fun and it ends in total disaster?
This morning Alayna decided to be a PILL at Ross and screamed most of the time we were there (she's been doing that a lot lately, it's super fun).

Then, you see this mischeveous expression...

... it means trouble.
Nothing but trouble.
Ethan decided to be a terror today while we went and visited my mom at work for lunch.
The visit ended with me throwing him in the car and disciplining him and him screaming the entire 30 minute ride home.  It was super fun.  Sometimes I wonder why I even try to do things with them?  lol.

Yesterday we headed out to Indio and met up with Faith and her kids.  They've been staying at their time share all week and so we joined them for a few hours of swimming.  My kids had a blast in the huge shallow kiddie pool and the fountains.  I told Ethan we were going on "vacation for the day", because he's been asking us to go on vacation lately :)

On the menu tonight: Rosemary, chicken potato pizza... a current favorite (I'm making it from scratch).

On the agenda for this weekend: I'm second shooting a wedding in Orange County tomorrow which will be a LONG, but hopefully good day :)  On Sunday we'll probably swim in the late afternoon after church and naps.

Happy Friday!
Hope you have a great weekend!

The Magic Castle

Last weekend we whisked away to Hollywood for the night with Danny and Jolene to celebrate both Matt and mine's 9th anniversary and Jolene's birthday.  Jolene's Dad has a friend who is a magician and he got us into the Magic Castle in Hollywood.  We booked a suite at the hotel next door (The Magic castle Hotel), and stayed the night out there.  We arrived on Friday around 3:30 and relaxed and enjoyed hanging out in our hotel room before walking next door to the Magic Castle.

The Magic Castle is really cool.  It was built in 1906 as a private residence and modeled after Kimberly Crest in Redlands.  In the 60s it was sold and became the Magic Castle.  This place is super unique.  You can only get in if you somehow know a magician who is a member... or know someone who knows one :)  They have an amazing resatuarant, tons of little bars, and lots of rooms/small theaters where you watch different people performing magic.

We were fortunate to receive a tour from Jolene's friend and he gave us the rundown as well as the history of The Magic Castle.  It was very interesting.  We enjoyed a suburb meal. I had lamb with an amazing mint cream sauce, it was symphony of flavors in my mouth.... seriously delicious.  From there we saw a couple of shows and watched a couple of people do up close magic.  The magicians were awesome and I never could figure out any of their tricks.

We had to take all of our photos before entering the Castle as they do not allow any photos inside... lest you start snapping pictures and try to figure out a magician's tricks :)  I only had my point and shoot along anyhow.

Here we are all snazzy in our hotel room.  They will not let men inside the Magic Castle without a suit and tie.  It was fun to get all dressed up.

Strike a pose!!
lol.

Danny and Jolene lookin' all spiffy

Danny got all crazy and pulled shank on me...
he said "no more pictures!"

We had to snap a pciture of all of us in front of the Magic Castle... before we had to put our camera away~

Me and my honey...
celebrating 9 years of marriage!
Wow!
Next year we hope to be celebrating 10 in Maui (the same place we honeymooned).

Danny and the birthday girl

This was at the end of the night... I think it was shortly after midnight.
Not too bad of a picture for being that late!
 Our dapper men :)

It was so nice to be able to stay out late and then just walk next door to our hotel instead of having to drive over an hour home... especially since it was the middle of "Carmegeddon"!  lol.  Seriously, traffic was amazing that weekend because everyone stayed home.  We got home without a hitch.

The next morning we lounged around and got ready then headed on out.  A trip to Hollywood would not be complete without driving around Beverly Hills and oogling a couple of mansions :)  We found the Playboy Mansion and I think I might have seen the corner of the roof.... lol.  Seriously it had some serious hedges around the entire property.  We drove down Rodeo Drive and saw a Bugatti Veyron parked on the street (that is a car that costs around 1.5 million!!!!).  It was funny because all kinds of people were stopping to take pictures in front of it.  We got back home around 24 hours after leaving :)

Thank you for taking us along on such an amazing little trip Danny and Jolene!  It was truly unforgettable :)

Red White and Blue

I love the 4th of July.
I love all the red, white and blue,
the flags,
the get togethers,
fireworks,
swimming,
food.
and most importantly the celebration of our country,
and the fact that we have freedom.

After a VERY busy couple of weeks and entertaining both Saturday and Sunday Matt and I were quite content to have a low key 4th of July.  We packed up a lunch and spent the morning swimming and splashing in Matt's parent's pool.  Our family LOVES to swim, so we are blessed to be able to use their pool whenever we want, and they only live 5 minutes from us :)  We had fun splashing around all morning.

Did you know I used to be on swim team?
I was decent at freestyle and butterfly... and back stroke once in a while.
I even endured one season of waterpolo... and I stunk at it :)
Water-polo is not for wimps... oh my is that sport hard.

um.... my face cracks me up here

His face however makes me smile :)

This little miss can never stay warm while swimming so she usually ends up on the side of the pool laying in the sun :)

Whenever we go swimming Cookie has to come along with us,
the dog just loves water.
She swims non stop and tires herself out fetching a toy.

Alayna saying goodbye to Papa and getting her candy heart :)

After our kids were good and tired we came home, napped, hung out some more, then headed to my mom's for dinner.  I had to try to snap a few pictures of us in our patriotic colors :)

I'm lookin' kinda bedraggled because we hadn't planned on going anywhere after swimming...

Me and my mama

My bro and his "brother" Stefan.  My mom used to babysit Stefan and so he was like a brother to us growing up.

Check out the tatoo my brother recently got...
It's a portrait of my dad when he was like 26.
It turned out really good, it looks exactly like the picture.
It took him six hours to get this done.... ouch.

After stuffing ourselves with yummy food we bathed the kids and headed back to Yucaipa to park our car near the high school and watch the fireworks.  This was the first year we've ever let our kids stay up long enough to watch them and it did not disappoint.  Seeing the awe and wonder in their faces as they watched fireworks for the very first time in their lives was just priceless.  It was work the the two hour too late bedtime :)  Ethan keeps asking if we can watch them again, and is dissapointed every time I tell him we have to wait a whole year to see them again ;)

Hope you all had a happy 4th!
This post was quite late since it's already the 13th :)

Credential Program Friends

Since my teacher friends from the credential program are out of school for the summer we were finally able to get together for a little play date.  We joke that it's our annual event because it only ends up happening about once a year  :)  I had so much fun with these girls learning how to be teachers at UCR.  It's fun to see them become wives and mom's and still be able to get together.

Despite having moved into her house only three weeks ago, Tawny graciously hosted and let our kids tear her house apart :)  She had a little pool set up and my kids had a blast playing in her yard.  Ethan was glued to the little toy quad almost the entire time.

So funny thing... this is the very same house Matt and three other guys rented in college :)  It's near UCR.  A few months ago Tawny and Joe started describing the house and we realized it was the very same one.... so crazy.  It was kind of nostalgic to come back here :)  I hadn't been to this house since Matt and I were dating way back in like um... 2000 or 2001!

Me, Tawny, Amy and Noreen

Tawny's son Travis and Alayna splashing in the pool (they are six months apart)

Tawny's oldest daughter Sammy and Amy's daughter Taylor

Ethan hogged this toy the whole time... he thought it was amazing

cheese!

Noreen and her newest addition... 6 month old Jake

Despite our children running wild around us we still manged to get in some conversation :)  Thanks for hosting Tawny!
