Palm Springs Getaway

Image
We had the chance to get away to one of Marlene's timeshare places in Palm Springs for two nights at the beginning of Christmas break. The place we stayed was great, it was a large two bedroom place and the resort had a fun pool with waterslides.  The weather was in the high 60's, and the pool's were heated, so we swam.  It was pretty chilly for me, but Ethan had a blast and was on the waterslide non stop. Alayna enjoyed, but spent some time in the spa with me as well :)  We didn't bother putting Everett in the pool.

The kids got glitter tattoos by the pool and thought that was great :)
We went hiking in Palm Canyon, right across the street from the timeshare. The hike went on several miles longer than we did, but we made it up far enough to enjoy the view. The desert has such a different, rugged beauty.  While I definitely avoid the desert in the summer, during the winter it is perfect!

Everett hasn't perfected the selfie yet ;)

We managed to get in three swim …

Christmas Eve

Image
Christmas was low key and relaxing this year.  It was definitely bittersweet as well.  We missed Sid, and we also rejoiced in the new family member we have this year.

On Christmas Eve we had my mom and Marlene over, and did our usual appetizers. My brother was out of town on vacation, so he was not around.  The kids opened their gifts from my mom, and a couple from us, and we had fun playing.

The sunset was gorgeous on Christmas Eve

I got Alayna a Lite Brite, something I had as a kid :)

Christmas morning I made baked french toast casserole, and we opened up our gifts together just our family. Ethan was SOOOOOO excited to receive a model train set, and Matt was equally excited to give it to him :)  He has fond memories of model trains with his own dad from when he was a boy.  This was definitely the highlight of Christmas!

Around noon we packed up and headed to Matt's mom's house to celebrate with her and the Yucaipa Hekmans.  We had a delicious ham dinner and exchanged gifts…

December Festivities

I figure I need to catch up on my blogging before 2014 ends so that my posts can be in my 2014 blog book :)

December of course flew by, and was full of fun and festivities. We had three Christmas programs this year.  One for Alayna for her Junior Kindergarten, one for both kids for church, and one for Ethan for school. The kids looked so cute each time and got to wear their dressy clothes.  Of course Alayna was much more excited about this than Ethan :)

Our annual Gingerbread House decorating.  I always buy a kit, I like easy :)

I had the opportunity to take Alayna to the Nutcracker Ballet.  My mom met up with us.  It was really fun and Alayna enjoyed it.

We always decorate sugar cookies, a favorite for both Matt and the kids.

The kids both had parties at school before Christmas break, and it was fun to be able to pop into both classes.
