More of July

Just some randoms....

Alayna reading to Everett before he naps :)

Free slurpees from 7-11 on July 11th :)

Ethan was pretending to be a shark, lol.

Alayna has been saying "one of the things she hopes for most in life is that she can catch as mall creature herself, something like a bunny or a lizard", haha!  This weekend one of her dreams came true because she was able to catch a lizard herself.  It was funny.  After a few hours I convinced her to let it go so it could survive :)

After dinner one night the kids brought Everett out dressed up like a clown.  It was cute and he happily went along.

Matt and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary on July 13th. We went out on the weekend and went to The Grand Oak at Highland Springs Resort for dinner.

The kids and I went to the park in Oak Glen one morning this week.

I had been wanting an Instapot for a while, and when it came up on Amazon Prime day for $69.00 instead of the normal $119, I went for it and got one.  I tried it out yesterday and was quite excited with the results.  I made the yummiest cilantro lime rice and it only took 10 minutes!  I am actually throwing out my rice maker as the rice turned out so much better in the Instapot.  I also made Kalua pork with a pork roast, and we made burrito bowls.  It turned out really yummy.   It only took 90 minutes, versus 10 hours in the crockpot :)  It was so moist and tasty too.  I'm excited to try more things in it!  You can cook a whole chicken in 30 minutes.

I flew to Houston to meet up with Faithy for three nights right after the 4th of July.  She has to go every six months to meet with her doctors, and this was her six month mark.  My brother was so sweet and picked me up at 2:30am to get me to LAX for my 5:30am flight.  I haven't traveled alone since having kids... crazy huh?  This was Matt's first time staying solo overnight without the kids.  Of course he did great.  It was fun to see Faithy and get to spend some time together, and of course she was happy to have the company on the day she had her appointments at the hospital :)  I had actually never to been to Texas at all, let alone Houston.  It was hot and humid, but pretty.  I wasn't expecting it to be so green, but everything was green.

We treated ourselves to pedicures after the day at the hospital :)  I also enjoyed lots of down time reading and was able to finish two books while I was gone :)

Walking outside and having my glasses fog up due to the humidity... a new experience for me, haha.

On our second full day there we didn't have anything we had to do, so we walked and explored.  Faith had already seen all of this in January, but it was my first time :)  We walked to this huge park and explored the natural science museum. One nice thing was that there were tons of live oak trees lining the streets providing shade.  This made walking much more bearable.

It was a really neat park with lots of different areas.  It was HUGE.

We took the metro to the downtown area where we found a really cool place to eat.

I'm so glad we could spend some time together.  Even though Faith lives so far away now, when we see each other it's like there is no distance :)  We are continually praying that the cancer stays out of her body!

On my plane on the way back I was sitting in the window seat and the flight path flew right over Yucaipa.  It was so fun to be able to see my neighborhood from the air.

4th of July

This was the first 4th of July that we have been in town in a few years.  I always love the 4th.  This year the Floreses came over for the afternoon and we all swam.  We enjoyed some BBQ ribs and yummy fixins and then they headed home.  We loaded our kids up in the car and went and parked and watched the local fireworks at Yucaipa high school.  My favorite part was how in awe Alayna was the whole time, it was so precious.  Precious memories made!!

I love coordinating in patriotic colors!  Such fun :)

Look who finally ventured off the lagoon shelf and across the pool!

This was the best picture I could get of all the kids... haha.
